This is not just a reference to Le Sserafim’s Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard’s Wife. We’re saying goodbye to the clean girl, and welcoming in the messy bedhead. Once the different Fall/Winter 2023 fashion shows premiered, one thing’s for sure — it’s about time to ditch your combs.

As society progresses to be more self-expressive, art takes many forms, even down to the kinks in your hair. Here are 6 brands that preach for non-slick supremacy.

Guido Palau created this “natural” bedhead for the Miu Miu show. He mentioned in an interview that he wanted to pay homage to the current beauty landscape by infusing the reality and surrealism you find in ethereal looks that’s inspired by mundane emotions or the weather or even both. He captured the hair deconstruction moment with Got2B hairspray.

Yohji Yamamoto

Yohji Yamamoto still finds beauty in flaws and imperfections. Hair stylist Eugene Souleiman has commented that he strives to see the realm in-between perfect and imperfect through Yohji’s lens. The models strut down the runway with static hair and spots painted on their faces to complement the collection’s asymmetry.

Chanel

Almost a third of the models wore their hair half-up at the Chanel show. The hair was loosely secured with side fringes, tendrils, and baby hairs running down to the sides of the face, giving an effortless and realistic version of a city girl on-the-go.

Andres Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood

Andres Kronthaler had a few of his models to work the runway in a mussed updo. Hair stylist Charlie le Mindu created these hairdos with the late Vivienne Westwood in mind. The hair is donned with a green accent eyeliner (also Viv-inspired), jet black nails, and wool garb in splashes of floral and plaid.

Simone Rocha

This isn’t necessarily a messy hairdo but rather a neatly unkempt style. The model’s fringes were curled, allowing the hair to cascade down the face, just like the ribbons that adorned their cheeks. Simone Rocha’s hair stylist Cyndia Harvey described the curls as “slightly destroyed” and as if the weather made them lost their curls a tad bit.

Molly Goddard

Got a matted cowlick? Rock it. Molly Goddard birthed this collection while thinking back about her past as a form of escapism from the fast-paced fashion realm. Hair stylist Syd Hayes had models push back their hair, setting the roots in place while letting the rest of hair run free.
